Digital accessibility training is a great way to gain an understanding of why accessibility is important, improve the accessibility of MSU content, and become familiar with MSU's Digital Accessibility Policy. This page covers available training opportunities from a variety of sources.

Deque University Course Access

Deque University offers online, self-paced training. Deque's comprehensive web and digital accessibility curriculum covers the full range of topics, with classes designed for a variety of professionals. The Office for Civil Rights can facilitate access to accessibility training for MSU employees at no cost. Course access requests will usually be processed within one to two days. Requesters will be notified when registration is complete. Detailed information is available about recommended Deque learning paths by employee role and by topic area.

Self-paced Trainings in D2L

RCPD Disability and Accommodation Training

Self-enroll in this D2L course developed by the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD). The course focuses on disability education, RCPD accommodations, and accessible classroom best practices.

Digital Accessibility for Educators Certificate Program

Instructors can self-enroll in this D2L course launched in 2025 by the MSU IT Educational Technology Team. As of March 2025, the first of six modules is available. All self-paced modules are expected to be available by fall 2025. Participants can earn micro-credentials for each module, and a certificate upon completing all six modules. This program is open to faculty, staff, and students through the Digital Accessibility for Educators self-enrollment page.

Silktide Academy

MSU has purchased Silktide for the primary purpose of checking university websites for digital accessibility. Silktide also has a training resource called Silktide Academy. Using single sign-on, university employees can access Silktide Academy trainings. Courses and videos of interest include:

  • What in the World is WCAG? (1 hour): "A fun series that teaches the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) in a way that's easy to understand, with lots of cats."
  • Video categories: accessibility, WCAG 2.2, and webinars.

Instructional Technology and Development (IT&D) Resources

MSU IT provides instructional technology consultation services leveraging MSU technology resources to meet the needs of students and faculty in-person and online. Visit the Technology at MSU website to learn more and view upcoming training opportunities. Additionally, the IT&D MediaSpace channel of over 100 videos covers topics like providing an accessible and inclusive environment for learning, crafting accessible course content, designing a course at MSU, and more.
