Evaluation and Validation

Accessibility Evaluation Tools

There are a number of tools that make it easier to evaluate the accessibility of a website or document. This list is not exhaustive, and we welcome suggestion.

Michigan State University Website Evaluation Protocol

The following Protocol is suggested for MSU webmasters and web content providers to use in evaluating their own websites. It is not a thorough WCAG 2.0 evaluation protocol, only a basic process that will make it practical to gauge compliance, demonstrate progress, and aid in prioritizing web accessibility remediation.

Browser Tools, Plugins and Extensions

Spend some time now then again every few months exploring the built-in accessibility and other error checking tools in whatever browsers you use. The browser tools are changing all the time and most have been integrating some accessibility checking along with their more traditional features. Check out their available extensions and plugins also.

Online Tools

Screen Readers

Standalone Tools

  • Colour Contrast Analyser: Tool to determine whether color contrast is sufficient. The new tool works well on computers with single screens while the old tool (further down on the linked to page) works better on systems with multiple monitors.
